Interacting with the holographic image of your ship activates a visual menu enabling you to access some of the ship interface options, but not all of them. If you want to rename your ship, use any of the Orca facilities or do anything else slightly advanced, you're going to have to find another way to do it.
Oh and by the way, don't try to interact with your actual ship, that would be silly. You're not in your pod now and therefore no longer neurally connected to it. And just how long do you think your arms are?
